Property of John Gottschall
Webmaster's Note: John Gottshall died in 1862, without leaving a will to determine the fate of his
property. The following is a list of the farm property and equipment of John Gottshall that was
auctioned off in 1862. It appears that my ancestor Samuel Gottshall, son of John, was serving in the
army and not present for the auction. This list may be of some interest to the social and economic
historian, although such records are fairly common. Unfortunately, some parts of the documents are
illegible. In this case, I've used [...] to indicate sections that I cannot read. Otherwise I've
attempted to write down exactly what appears, including spelling. The last part of the list here did
not have bidders listed beside it, so it must have been handled differently. I will make this section
more complete as I decipher some of the other documents.
